Subscan is great, but the eco and specially (still) small projects can't afford paying over and over again. There should be a solution for the whole eco. Is there a report how much funds subscan got in the past or does get from Polkadot and all parachains?
Was subscan built with private funds? How does other blockchain explorers in other ecos survive?

@wd8h...k6WD Yes Subscan was built privately. I'm not aware of any revenue stream other than parachain treasuries paying to use their service. Note that Blockscout (on Moonriver/Moonbeam) closed down leaving only Moonscan for EVM. Polkascan now closed down. There aren't really any alternatives. Personally I think $2.5k per quarter ($800/mo) is ok. Note that having a block explorer in general is critical for user funds transparency. I recently pointed out to Polimec that the rudimentary block explorer they're using is insufficient and one reason PLMC shouldn't be listed in the Omnipool.
